The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 became law, with an implementation period of at least 24 months before the duties start.
What happened
The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, known as Martyn's Law, received Royal Assent on 3 April 2025. It is named after Martyn Hett, one of 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena attack in 2017, and follows years of campaigning by his mother, Figen Murray.
The government committed to an implementation period of at least 24 months so the Security Industry Authority could set up the regulator and venues could prepare. The duties are expected to come into force in spring 2027.
