Martyn's Law updates

Every official development that affects UK venues, explained in plain English with what to do next. Checked against GOV.UK and legislation.gov.uk.

Timeline

  1. Correction slip: the tenant running a pub is the responsible person

The Home Office corrected its statutory guidance. Where a tenant runs a pub owned by a brewery or pub company, the tenant in control is the responsible person, not the brewery.

  2. Home Office updates the Martyn's Law factsheets

The official factsheets, the quickest overview of the Act, were updated on GOV.UK.

  3. Notification rules set: what you must tell the SIA, and when

The Notification Requirements Regulations 2026 (SI 2026/793) and Home Office guidance set out what venues and events must tell the SIA and the deadlines.

  4. SIA consults on how it will use its Martyn's Law powers

The SIA published a progress update, opened a consultation on its draft section 12 guidance on investigation and enforcement, and invited venues to test its notification portal.

  5. Home Office publishes the Martyn's Law statutory guidance

The statutory guidance for the Act was published, with three supplementary documents on capacity methods, scope examples and further resources.

  6. Martyn's Law receives Royal Assent

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025 became law, with an implementation period of at least 24 months before the duties start.
