Notification rules set: what you must tell the SIA, and when

The Notification Requirements Regulations 2026 (SI 2026/793) and Home Office guidance set out what venues and events must tell the SIA and the deadlines.

What happened

The Terrorism (Protection of Premises) (Notification Requirements) Regulations 2026 were made on 9 July 2026 and laid before Parliament on 14 July 2026. The Home Office published its notification requirement guidance on GOV.UK the same day. The regulations take effect when the notification duty in section 9 of the Act comes fully into force.

Existing premises will have three months from that date to notify the SIA. Changes to the information you have given, such as a new capacity figure or a new contact, must be notified within 28 days. Qualifying events must be notified within 14 days of first being publicised.

Notifications include contact details, the maximum number of people reasonably expected to be present and relevant licences. Enhanced tier premises must also give details of their designated senior individual and compliance document. A responsible person can authorise someone else to submit a notification, but the legal responsibility stays with them.
