What happened
On 8 May 2026, the ninth anniversary of the Manchester Arena attack, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) set out its progress towards regulating Martyn's Law. It opened a public consultation on its draft guidance under section 12 of the Act, which explains how it intends to use its investigation and enforcement powers. The consultation closed on 12 June 2026.
The SIA also said it is recruiting inspectors and regional teams, and invited premises and events likely to be in scope to volunteer to test its digital notification portal before it goes live. The regime is expected to start in spring 2027. No commencement date has been announced.
What to do now
- Watch for the final section 12 guidance, which will show how inspections and enforcement work in practice.
- If you want early sight of the portal, look for the SIA's call for testers on its GOV.UK pages.
